Example 1
- Radius: 10
4188.79
A ball of r = 10. Interior 4188.79, not skin 1256.64.
Give the radius, half the diameter, not the full diameter. You get how much fits inside the ball, not how much paint the skin takes. At r = 10 the interior is 4188.79; at half the radius, r = 5, it drops eightfold to 523.60.
V = 4/3 πr³. Surface area is on the sphere surface area calculator. A cylinder is on the cylinder volume calculator.
Radius r (cm). Volume shows up here.
Sphere volume grows with the cube of the radius. V = 4/3 πr³ multiplies π by 4/3 and by r³. That is why mixing up diameter and radius hurts more here than on circle area: twice the r means eight times the interior. The result is in cm³ or in³, matching the switch label.
The ball on the page has r = 10 and interior 4188.79. At r = 5, half the radius, you get 523.60. The unit sphere r = 1 is about 4.19. Further on the page: r = 2 gives 33.51, r = 3 gives 113.10, r = 4 gives 268.08, r = 6 gives 904.78, r = 8 gives 2144.66. A cube of edge 3 has 27, the same "three" and a different solid.
Type the radius in cm or inches and click Calculate. If a worksheet gives diameter, divide by two first. Diameter 10 means r = 5 and 523.60; typing 10 as r gives 4188.79. A comma and a period are the same. The code does not guess whether you typed a diameter.
Surface area at r = 10 is 1256.64, formula 4πr², the sibling page. A cylinder with r = 5 and h = 10 is 785.40. A cube of edge 10 is 1000, with no π. A cone and a cylinder need height; a sphere in this formula has one r.
Switching to inches relabels the result as in³ and leaves a typed 10 unconverted. Mixing "10 cm" with an inch label breaks the scale. Pick a unit, type r in that unit, read the result in its cube.
Paint on a ball is skin area, not this card. Water, air, or foam inside is this one. If you only want a cross-section, a great circle is πr², one quarter of the skin and a different story from 4/3 πr³.
V = (4/3) × π × r³
Radius, not diameter. Surface area 4πr² is on the sibling page.
Radius, half the diameter. At r = 10 the interior is 4188.79. At r = 5 it drops eightfold to 523.60.
4188.79
A ball of r = 10. Interior 4188.79, not skin 1256.64.
4.19
Unit sphere r = 1, about 4.19.
523.60
r = 5, 523.60. Eight times less than at r = 10.
33.51
r = 2, 33.51.
113.10
r = 3, 113.10. A cube of edge 3 is 27.
268.08
r = 4, 268.08.
904.78
r = 6, 904.78.
2144.66
r = 8, 2144.66, between five and ten.
4188.79. Skin at that r is 1256.64, formula 4πr², another page. A cube of edge 10 is 1000.
4πr² is surface area. Volume is 4/3 πr³. At r = 10 the skin is 1256.64 and the interior is 4188.79.
Because r is cubed. Half the radius is one eighth the volume, 523.60 instead of 4188.79. Surface area would drop by four.
That cylinder is 785.40. A sphere at r = 5 is 523.60. Different solid, different formula.
Diameter 10 means r = 5 and 523.60. Typing 10 as r gives 4188.79, eight times too much versus the right r.
The calculator multiplies π by 4/3. At r = 1 the display is 4.19 to two places.
On the sphere surface area page. At r = 10 it is 1256.64, four circle areas at that r.
a³ without π is on the cube page. A sphere of r = 10 is a different solid and 4188.79.
This calculator does not guess diameter. Divide by two before typing r.
At r = 3 you get 113.10. At r = 1 about 4.19. A cube of edge 3 has 27.
The calculator computes the same formula as the definition below.
