How it works

This calculator does concentration arithmetic. You divide milligrams in the vial by milliliters of diluent and get milligrams per milliliter. You divide the microgram amount by one thousand to get milligrams, then divide by concentration to get milliliters to draw. Syringe units are those milliliters times how many tick marks fall on one milliliter. Blank units are 100, as on a U-100 syringe where 100 units equal 1 mL. You can type 40 or 50 if that is the scale. That is not a recommendation of which syringe to buy.

Every quantity must be greater than zero. An empty vial, empty diluent, or empty mcg amount is an error. We do not guess 5 mg and 2 mL. We do not say how much anyone should take. We do not describe a needle, an injection site, sterility, or whether a substance is lawful or safe. If you want a therapeutic dose, this is the wrong page. Here the only question is: how many milliliters match the typed micrograms at the typed concentration.

A comma and a dot in a number work the same way. Volume shows four decimal places, units show one, concentration shows four. That way 0.02 mL does not vanish as zero. The metric or US switch does not turn milliliters into ounces. The currency symbol adds nothing, because this is not a vial price. The result stays a milliliter, a syringe tick, and milligrams per milliliter.

The examples below use round pairs so the card matches the formula. 5 mg in 2 mL at 250 mcg is 0.1000 mL and 10.0 units at 100 ticks per milliliter. A different vial, a different diluent, a different number. It is still lab arithmetic on a page, not a clinical protocol.

How to use

  1. Type milligrams in the vial and milliliters of diluent, both greater than zero. A comma or a dot in the number is fine.
  2. Type the dose in micrograms whose volume you want to compute. That field is not a recommendation, only a number for the formula.
  3. Leave syringe units per 1 mL blank to use 100, or type 40 or 50 if that is the scale printed on the syringe.
  4. Read concentration in mg per mL, dose volume in milliliters to four decimal places, and syringe units to one decimal place.
  5. Keep the limit in view: this is reconstitution arithmetic. There is no medical advice, no dose to take, and no injection steps.

10 mg per 1 mL and a 0.500 mg dose gives 0.0500 mL, which is 5.0 ticks on U-100.

Concentration 1 mg/mL and 200 mcg gives 0.2000 mL, because 0.200 / 1 = 0.2.

0.100 mg at 5 mg/mL gives 0.0200 mL and 2.0 units on a 100-tick-per-milliliter scale.

Volume 0.0500 mL at 50 units per mL gives 2.5 ticks, and concentration stays 5 mg/mL.

Blank units fill 100, so 0.1000 mL gives 10.0 on the syringe.

Is this medical advice or a recommendation of how much to take?

No. We do not pick a dose, we do not judge a substance, and we do not say anyone should take anything. You type numbers, we divide milligrams by milliliters.

Will I get injection instructions, a needle size, or a site on the body?

No. There is no needle angle, no disinfectant step, no body site, and no video. You get a milliliter volume and ticks on a syringe scale, which is arithmetic, not a procedure.

How do you compute concentration after mixing?

Milligrams in the vial divided by milliliters of diluent. 5 mg in 2 mL is 2.5 mg/mL. That is concentration on paper, not proof that the vial truly holds that amount.

Why is the dose in micrograms when concentration is in milligrams?

Because vials and planned portions are often labeled that way. We divide micrograms by 1000 to get milligrams, then divide by concentration to get milliliters.

What does a blank units-per-mL field do?

It fills 100, like a U-100 scale where 1 mL is 100 ticks. If you have a 40 or 50 scale, type that number. Blank is not zero, because zero units per milliliter would be meaningless.

What if a field is empty or zero?

That is an error. Vial milligrams, diluent milliliters, and the mcg amount must each be greater than zero. We do not guess a typical 5 mg vial. Units may be blank, then they use 100.

What is 2.5000 mg/mL on the concentration card?

It is milligrams of substance per milliliter after the typed dilution. 5 mg over 2 mL gives 2.5. We divide dose milligrams by that figure to get milliliters.

How does a 100 scale differ from a 40 scale at the same volume?

The milliliter volume stays the same, because it depends on concentration and dose. Units are milliliters times ticks per milliliter, so 0.0800 mL × 40 is 3.2, and × 100 would be 8.0.

Are syringe units the same thing as milliliters?

No. A milliliter is volume. Units are ticks on a scale, and they depend on how many ticks the maker printed per 1 mL. That is why there is a separate field.

Does US mode or currency turn 0.1000 mL into ounces or into dollars?

No. A milliliter stays a milliliter, a milligram stays a milligram. The header does not convert this arithmetic. There is no vial price here and no fluid ounce.
