Cylinder volume (from base circumference)

Type the base circumference and the height. V = (a²/(4π))×b. 2 and h = 4 give 1.273240. 4 and 1 give 1.273240. 2 and 2 give 0.636620.

Two fields: circumference a and height b. This is not πr²h from a radius. A fraction goes through six decimal places. An empty field leaves a blank.

How it works

Cylinder volume from the base circumference skips the radius. The calculator computes (a×a/(4π))×b. Circumference 2 and h = 4 give 4/π, on the page 1.273240. The same result at 4 and 1, because 16/(4π) is 4/π again.

The fields are base circumference and height. 2 and 2 give 0.636620, half of 4/π. That is equivalent to πr²h when a = 2πr, but the engine does not compute r on its own. It computes (a² / (4π)) × b.

An empty field is read as a blank value and the result stays blank, not zero. A zero circumference or a zero height gives 0. A minus height gives a minus volume. The calculator does not stop the drawing.

Classic cylinder volume from r and h is on the neighbouring page. There πr²h, here the circumference in the first field. Circle area from r alone is another calculator.

The header units switch does not multiply anything. 2 and 4 stay 1.273240 whatever the label says.

2 and h = 4 give 1.273240. 4 and 1 give 1.273240. 2 and 2 give 0.636620.

Formula

V = (a²/(4π)) × b

How to use

  1. Type the base circumference, for example 2, and the height, for example 4.
  2. Click Calculate. The volume comes out 1.273240.
  3. 4 and 1 give 1.273240. 2 and 2 give 0.636620.
  4. This is not πr²h from a radius. The first field is the circumference.
  5. Volume from r and h lives on the neighbouring cylinder card.

2 and h = 4 give 1.273240

V = (a²/(4π))×b. 2 and 4 give 1.273240. 4 and 1 give 1.273240. 2 and 2 give 0.636620.

cylinder
Volume from circumference and height. 2 and 4 give 1.273240. Not the radius card.
circumference
The first field a. 4 and h = 1 again give 1.273240.
volume
The result (a²/(4π))×b. 2 and 2 give 0.636620 after six decimal places.

Examples

Example 1

  • circumference = 2
  • h = 4

1.273240

What is the volume at circumference 2 and h = 4? 1.273240. That is 4/π after six decimal places.

Example 2

  • circumference = 4
  • h = 1

1.273240

What is the volume at circumference 4 and h = 1? 1.273240. 4/π again.

Example 3

  • circumference = 2
  • h = 2

0.636620

What is the volume at circumference 2 and h = 2? 0.636620. Half of 4/π.

Common questions

What is the volume at circumference 2 and h = 4?

1.273240. (4/(4π))×4 = 4/π, then six decimal places.

What does cylinder volume from circumference mean?

V from the base circumference and the height. (a²/(4π))×b. No separate r.

What about 4 and 1?

1.273240. 16/(4π) = 4/π, the same fraction.

What about 2 and 2?

0.636620. Half of 4/π.

Is this πr²h?

Equivalent when a = 2πr. The calculator does not compute r separately. It computes (a² / (4π)) × b.

What if a field is empty?

a blank value. The result stays blank, not zero.

Does 0 give 0?

Yes. A zero circumference or a zero h leaves 0.

Does a fraction get six places?

Yes. The result uses six decimal places. 4/π does not stay a bare π.

Where is volume from a radius?

On the cylinder volume page. There r and h, πr²h.

Does a comma in 2.5 work?

Yes. 2.5 and 2,5 are the same circumference.
