Time Card Calculator

The calculator sums hours from seven days: start, end and an unpaid break. Five 9:00–17:00 shifts with a 30-minute break are 37.5 h. Overtime starts after 40 hours in this week.

A span of two clock times without weekdays is on the time duration page. Rate times overtime hours: overtime calculator.

How it works

The calculator counts minutes between start and end and subtracts the unpaid break. Five days from 9:00 to 17:00 with a 30-minute break are 5 × 7.5 h, which is 37.5 h. There is no overtime, because the 40-hour threshold is not exceeded.

Five days from 9:00 to 17:30 with no break are 5 × 8.5 h, which is 42.5 h. Regular hours stay 40 h, and overtime is 2.5 h. At a rate of 20, pay is 40 × 20 plus 2.5 × 30, which is 875.

When the end is earlier than the start, the calculator adds 24 hours. A 22:00–6:00 shift with a 30-minute break is 7.5 h, not an error.

The overtime threshold is 40 hours in this week, a simplified FLSA rule. A daily 8-hour threshold and a Polish labor-code rule are not used.

An empty break is 0 minutes. A break longer than the shift is not accepted. An empty day is skipped.

This is not a payroll and not a statutory timesheet. Clock times without a week belong on the time duration page.

Formula

day minutes = end − start − break; overtime = max(0, total hours − 40)

When end < start, 24 h are added. Overtime pay is 1.5 × the rate, if you enter a rate.

How to use

  1. Fill Monday–Friday: 09:00, 17:00 and a 30-minute break. The result is 37.5 h, with no overtime.
  2. Change the end to 17:30 and the break to 0. The result is 42.5 h, including 2.5 h overtime.
  3. Optionally enter rate 20. Pay at 42.5 h is 875.
  4. Enter a night shift as 22:00 and 06:00. With a 30-minute break that is 7.5 h.

37.5 h from five 9:00–17:00 shifts

Each 9:00–17:00 shift minus 30 minutes is 7.5 h. Five such days are 37.5 h.

40 h
The overtime threshold in this week. 42.5 h leaves 2.5 h overtime.
1,5×
The overtime multiplier when a rate is entered. 2.5 h × 30 at rate 20 is 75.
break
Unpaid minutes. An empty field is 0. 30 minutes from 8 h leaves 7.5 h.
