How it works

Resting heart rate in this calculator is one number in beats per minute. Below 60 the label is low, 60 through 69 normal, 70 through 84 average, 85 and up elevated. 48 bpm is low, 65 is normal, 70 is average, 85 is elevated. The 84/85 cut is sharp because that is how the code is split: 84 is still average, 85 is already elevated.

People look this up because a watch reads one value in bed and another in a coffee line. Someone wakes at 58, someone at 72 after a short night. The page does not ask whether you measured after coffee or during illness. It does not catch an irregular rhythm. It does not subtract age from 220. A “normal” 65 here does not mean 60% of your HRmax is also 65.

The field is bpm alone. Measure pulse at rest, type the number, and click Calculate. The unit switch converts nothing, because beats per minute have no inches. Zero or a blank field does not get a label; the calculator waits for a positive number. 130 bpm, if you type it, still gets elevated.

Training zones and maximum live next door. Those pages ask for age; this one asks for bpm. Do not paste age 30 into this field, and do not paste 65 from bed into the zones calculator. Three tools stay with three formulas so the examples do not mix.

Sleep, alcohol, fever, and medicines change a real morning, not this band on the page. An athlete at 48 bpm gets the low label here, sometimes with a note on the example; that is not a bradycardia verdict. Uneven rhythm, shortness of breath, or fainting: see a doctor.

One label does not replace an ECG and is not training clearance. Type 65 and check normal. Then try 85 to see the sharp cut. Leave the rest to a clinic, not to a slider on a page.

Frequently asked questions

What label do I get at 65, 48, and 85 bpm?

65 is normal (the 60-69 band). 48 is low, because it is below 60. 85 is elevated, the first step from 85 up.

Does low at 48 bpm mean I have bradycardia?

No. It is a band label in this calculator. A doctor diagnoses with an ECG and a history, not this slider.

When should I measure?

Morning, lying down, before coffee and the phone is the usual advice. The page does not check the hour. Type 90 after stairs and you get elevated.

How is this different from max heart rate?

Here you classify morning bpm. There you subtract age from 220. Different field, different formula. Percent zones are a third card.

Can I paste 65 bpm into the zones calculator?

No. Zones ask for age, not rest. 65 in the age field would give a maximum of 155, not a morning label.

Why is 84 average and 85 elevated?

Because that is how the code is split. 70-84 is average, from 85 elevated. The cut is sharp. A cardiologist did not draw it tonight.

Do US units change the band?

No. bpm have no inches. 65 is still the normal band in this calculator.

Is an athlete at 48 bpm ill?

The calculator only says low; the example sometimes notes athletes. That is not a verdict. With symptoms, see a doctor.

Is this training clearance?

No. The band does not judge blood pressure, drugs, or disease. Clearance belongs to a doctor.

Is 130 bpm in the morning still on the scale?

Yes: elevated. The 120 placeholder does not cap the formula. It is still not an ECG.
