How it works

Running calories on this page come from distance, not from a watch. The formula is kilograms times kilometers times 1.03. 70 kg and 10 km give 721 kcal, because 70 × 10 × 1.03 = 721. Half the distance at the same mass is 360.5, shown as 361 after rounding to 1 kcal. 80 kg and 10 km give 824. 60 kg and a 21.1 km half marathon give 1,304.

Someone comes home from a 10K and wants “how many calories”; someone compares a 5K with an hour on a treadmill. Minutes are not an input: the same 10 km at 70 kg always prints 721, whether you jog or push. The constant 1.03 is one value for asphalt and a treadmill. Mud, wind, and gels change the day, not this product.

Type mass and distance, then Calculate. In metric mode that is kg and km. In US mode pounds and miles return to kilograms and kilometers with 0.453592 and 1.60934, then the same 1.03. The optional profile (height, age, sex, PAL) only feeds Mifflin and a TDEE percent. Without a profile you see the distance number alone.

MET times kg times hours lives on the calories-burned page. That one needs time and a MET you type. This one needs kilometers. Daily TDEE is another calculator: a day total, not one run. Walking and cycling have their own MET lists and take minutes.

Blank mass or blank distance does not pretend you skipped the run. The calculator waits for both numbers greater than zero. A comma and a period in 10.5 are the same distance. A 42.195 km marathon at 75 kg is about 3,260 kcal after rounding; that is the order of a long run, not a promise of fat loss.

The 1.03 estimate is not a lab test and not a VO2 mask. Type 70 and 10, check 721. Then try 70 and 5 to see 361. Deficit and a meal plan live on other tools.

Frequently asked questions

Why do 70 kg and 10 km give 721, not 700?

Because 70 × 10 × 1.03 = 721. The 1.03 constant is in the product. That is not a weight bug.

Why are there no minutes?

Because the formula is kg × km × 1.03. Pace is not an input. Time lives on the MET-minutes page, a different formula.

Is 5 km at 70 kg exactly half of 721?

Arithmetically 360.5; the result is 361. Rounding to 1 kcal breaks a clean half on screen.

Is this the same as MET times hours?

No. That page is MET × kg × hours. This one is mass × kilometers × 1.03. Two formulas, two pages. 721 from 10 km is not 560 from an hour at 8 MET.

Do US miles change 721 for the same 10 km?

Not if you convert 10 km with 1.60934 and type miles. A different mile count is a different distance.

What if mass or distance is missing?

The calculator asks for both numbers greater than zero. It does not show 0 kcal as if you skipped the run.

Are 3,260 marathon kcal fat loss?

No. That is 75 kg × 42.195 km × 1.03, about 3,260 after rounding. Gels and water change the day. TDEE is next door.

Why a TDEE percent?

To show what slice of the day this distance ate when you give Mifflin and PAL. Without a profile you only see kcal from kilometers.

Does 1.03 work the same on a treadmill as on asphalt?

The calculator does not split surfaces. 1.03 is one constant. Wind and grade change real life, not this product.

Is 721 kcal a lab measurement?

No. It is an estimate from mass, kilometers, and 1.03. A VO2 mask would give a different number. Treat 721 as the order of a 10K, not a lab result.
