Sine is a number from −1 to 1. In a right triangle: sin = opposite ÷ hypotenuse.

Sine measures how steep an angle is relative to the hypotenuse. In a right triangle: sin α = opposite / hypotenuse.
For degrees the calculator converts to radians first (× π/180), then takes sine. Known values: sin 0° = 0, sin 30° = 0.5, sin 90° = 1.

An equilateral triangle split by a height makes two 30-60-90 triangles. The side opposite 30° is half the hypotenuse, so the ratio is 1/2.
