This is not any base — only the number e. eˣ is always positive. A large positive x makes a huge result. A large negative x moves toward zero, but never below zero.

What it means

At x = 0 the result is always 1. At x = 1 you get e itself. At x = 2 you get e×e. A negative x gives a fraction: e⁻¹ is 1/e.

Why does a large x explode?

How is this different from a logarithm?

eˣ goes one way (exponent → value). The natural log goes the other way (value → exponent).

Can I enter a fraction like 0.5?

Yes. e⁰·⁵ is the square root of e.

Why do I get a message for a very negative x?

The result is so close to zero that ordinary browser math cannot show it. It is not negative.

Is this the same as 2ˣ?
