How this estimate works

The calculator multiplies round-trip minutes by commute days in the year and divides by 60. 50 minutes, 5 days, and 46 weeks is 230 days and about 192 hours, or 8 full days (divide by 24) and about 12 waking days (divide by 16). One-way is multiplied by two before the year is built. 20 minutes round trip at 5 days and 48 weeks is 80 hours a year.

Cash is one daily or monthly sum: fuel, tickets, parking. 12 times 230 days is 2,760 a year and 27,600 over 10 years. A monthly 180 on the same day grid is 2,160 a year. Traffic jams and late office nights are not in the model: fixed time times fixed days.

Hourly value is optional. 192 hours times 25 is about 4,792 of time cost a year, beside 2,760 in cash. A blank hourly field leaves time and fares alone. That is not a contract rate and not tax advice.

Compare keeps the same trip and reduces days per week. From 5 days to 2 you get 60 percent of the hours back, about 115 hours a year on the 50-minute example. Zero remote days return the whole year.

You enter trip mode, minutes, days, weeks, years, cost mode, amount, optional hourly value, and compare days. A comma and a period both parse in minutes. Entered 0 cash leaves hours only. 46 weeks is a simple year after leave; use 48 or 44 if that is your calendar.

This is an estimate of hours and money from the minutes you enter. The calculator does not look up live traffic. A wider office-day bill is on the office-days cost page. Two addresses are on the hidden cost of location page.
