Memory units

Type a value, from, and to. 1 GB gives 1000 MB. 1 GiB gives 1024 MiB. 1024 MiB gives 1 GiB. Prefixes, not a RAM reading.

SI 1000 and IEC 1024 prefixes. Not a RAM reading from the system. Payload bytes sit on JSON size.

How it works

Memory units in this calculator multiply a value by a prefix. 1 GB to MB gives 1000 MB. 1 GiB to MiB gives 1024 MiB. 1024 MiB to GiB gives 1 GiB. SI goes by 1000. IEC goes by 1024. This is not a RAM reading.

Field mem-value is a number. Selects mem-from and mem-to pick the ends. 1 × 10^9 / 10^6 = 1000. 1 × 2^30 / 2^20 = 1024. The bytes checkbox stays off in the examples. Second unit mem-to-extra is not in these three cards.

1000 MB is not free from htop. 1024 MiB does not come from Task Manager. 1 GiB is not a DIMM. Mix GB with GiB and the result splits. The calculator does not read /proc/meminfo.

JSON size next door multiplies characters by bytes. Storage cost multiplies GB by a price. Here 1 GB stays 1000 MB, the prefix alone.

Type 1, from GB to MB, then Calculate. The result is 1000 MB. A comma in 1,5 works. Zero value leaves 0. This is not a memory probe.

1 GB gives 1000 MB. 1 GiB gives 1024 MiB. 1024 MiB gives 1 GiB. Another prefix pair at 1 changes the result.

Formula

result = value × bytes[from] / bytes[to]. SI 1000, IEC 1024. Prefixes, not a RAM reading.

How to use

  1. Type 1, from GB to MB.
  2. Click Calculate. The result is 1000 MB.
  3. 1 GiB to MiB gives 1024 MiB. 1024 MiB to GiB gives 1 GiB.
  4. Prefixes, not a RAM reading.
  5. JSON payload bytes sit on JSON size.

1 GB = 1000 MB

An SI or IEC prefix. 1 GB gives 1000 MB. 1 GiB gives 1024 MiB. This is not a RAM reading.

Memory
The mem-from and mem-to ends. 1 GB leaves 1000 MB. 1024 MiB leaves 1 GiB.
units
A prefix, not a DIMM. 1 GiB to MiB gives 1024 MiB. Not htop.
GiB
IEC 1024^3. 1 GiB is 1024 MiB. GB is 1000^3.

Examples

1000 MB

What is 1 GB in MB? 1000 MB. SI prefix 1000, not RAM.

Example 2

  • 1
  • from GiB
  • to MiB

1024 MiB

What is 1 GiB in MiB? 1024 MiB. IEC prefix 1024.

Example 3

Common questions

What is 1 GB in MB?

1000 MB. SI, base 1000. Not a RAM reading.

What is 1 GiB in MiB?

1024 MiB. IEC, base 1024.

What is 1024 MiB in GiB?

1 GiB. The same IEC prefix the other way.

Does the calculator read RAM?

No. No /proc/meminfo and no Task Manager. Prefixes only.

How does GB differ from GiB?

GB is 1000^3. GiB is 1024^3. 1 GB and 1 GiB are two entries.

Does a comma in 1,5 work?

Yes. 1,5 GB to MB gives 1500 MB.

Why the bytes checkbox?

It adds a B line. The examples keep it off.

Where do I size a JSON payload?

On JSON size. Here the prefix stays.

Does zero count?

Yes as 0 in the target unit. A blank field is a number error.
