How it works

Food waste in this calculator is net weekly CO₂e from landfill minus compost. 3 kg, landfill 60%, compost 30%, factor 2, factor 0.4, decay 0.7 give 2.2 kg CO₂e · per week. The second set gives 1.0 kg CO₂e · per week. The third gives 5.0 kg CO₂e · per week.

landfill = kg × share × factor × decay. compost = kg × share × factor. net = max(0, landfill − compost). At 3 kg the second line is 2.5 kg.

2.2 kg CO₂e · per week is not a waste fee. 1.0 kg CO₂e · per week is more compost. 5.0 kg CO₂e · per week is 5 kg and 80% landfill. Optional fields stay empty.

Waste and recycling next door uses a year and 0.45/0.12. Water footprint counts litres. Here the week stays: 3 kg and 60% stay 2.2 kg CO₂e · per week.

Type 3, 60, 30, 2, 0.4 and 0.7. Then Calculate. 2.2 kg CO₂e · per week. 1.0 kg CO₂e · per week. 5.0 kg CO₂e · per week.

The first set gives 2.2 kg CO₂e · per week. The second gives 1.0 kg CO₂e · per week. The third gives 5.0 kg CO₂e · per week. Another landfill share at 3 kg changes 2.2.

Formula

landfill = kg × land% × factor × decay. compost = kg × comp% × factor. net = max(0, landfill − compost). Suffix · per week.

How to use

  1. Type 3 kg, 60% landfill and 30% compost.
  2. Add factors 2 and 0.4 and decay 0.7.
  3. Click Calculate. The result is 2.2 kg CO₂e · per week.
  4. 2 kg give 1.0. 5 kg give 5.0 kg CO₂e · per week.
  5. A week and other factors, not the annual card.
